Fancy Dress Fest

This boutique festival is bit more trendy and indie than the Isle of Wright festival. The Bestival won the UK festival awards for “best major festival” of 2010, so they must be on to something.

This festival boasts 15 different stages and is famous for it’s “Fancy Dress” night. Themes have ranged from “30,000 Freaks Under the Sea” to “Outer Space” and “Fantasy”. This year’s theme has yet to be announced but expect it to be good.

The festival is considered kid friendly and even has a tent called the “Breastaville” for new and nursing moms. Wishing Trees, DJs, divas, roller disco, freakshows, fireworks, comedy and sideshows make it a diverse place. The Cure is headlining this year but a varied lineup of rock and electronica keep it interesting. You can even get married in the world’s only inflatable church. You get the picture!

This is a great way to round up the European festival summer. Most come ready to camp and arrive by ferry across the English Channel. However there are a few that actually swim across the channel!
